MESH STITCH BLOCK
Are you ready for the next block? It’s here! This block doesn’t take much time to make and is an open weave block.
Let’s get to it!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn in Any color – Approx 45 yds
6mm hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
As in all previous blocks, you may use any yarn that you like. I have used cotton yarn.
Stitches used and abbreviations:
Ch – chain stitch
St – stitch
Sk – skip stitch
Sp – space
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc – double crochet
Inv join – invisible join
FO – Fasten off
- Ch34, dc in the 7th ch from the hook [counts as a dc, ch2, sk2], *ch2, sk 2 chs, dc*, repeat to end. (10 squares, 11 dc)
- Ch4, dc in the dc from previous row, *ch2, sk 2, dc in the dc from previous row*, repeat to end, sk2 chs, last dc in the next ch.
- Repeat Row 2 until you have 12 rows or the square measures approximately 8”.
- Ch1, turn to crochet down the side of the square, *2hdc in the sp, hdc st*, repeat down the side for 35 hdcs, at the corner, 3hd in the corner ch, *2hdc in the sp, hdc st*, repeat along the bottom for 35 hdcs, at the corner, 3hd in the corner ch [which is the beginning ch], *2hdc in the sp, hdc st*, repeat up the side for 35 hdcs, at the corner, 3hd in the corner ch, *2hdc in the sp, hdc st*, repeat along the bottom for 35 hdcs, at the corner, 3hd in the corner ch [which is the last dc in the body], inv join, weave in ends.
The number of hdcs will vary depending on the number of squares you have in each row. See Fig 1 below for the corner sts.
