Bombshell Mittens

Crochet Bombshell Mittens free pattern

MATERIAL NEEDED:

Sport or DK weight yarn

Approx 155 yds

5mm (child), 5.5mm (teen/adult)

Scissors

Stitch Markers

Tapestry Needle

Stitches used and abbreviations:

Ch – chain stitch

St – stitch

Sc – single crochet

Scflo – single crochet in front loop only

Sl st – slip stitch

Sctog – single crochet 2 together (decrease)

Dc – double crochet

Fpdc – front post double crochet

Bpdc – back post double crochet

FO – Fasten off

Chains at beginning of rows DO count as a stitch.

2 dc = 2 double crochets in the same stitch

Dc 2 = double crochet in the next 2 stitches

SPECIAL STITCHES

V Stitch – Dc, ch2, dc

Shell – dc 3, ch1, dc 3

This pattern is a beginner pattern.   

GAUGE:  4mm Hook, 6 sc x 5 rows = 1” for brim

                 3 shells = 3 ½” wide and 3” tall

TODDLER (Use 5mm Hook)

THUMB – Make 2

Rounds

  1. MR, ch1, 6 sc in the ring, DO NOT JOIN.  (6)
  2. 2sc in ea st around.  (12)

  3-8.  Sc in ea st around.  (12) 

Fasten off. 

Thumb pieces should fit to the crook of the hand meeting thumb.  (See Fig 1.)

FINGERS – Make 2

Rounds 

  1. MR, 6 sc in the ring, DO NOT JOIN.  (6)
  2. 2sc in ea st around.  (12)
  3. *Sc, 2sc*, repeat around. (18)
  4. *Sc 2, 2sc*, repeat around. (24)

 5-18.  Sc in each st around. (24) For shorter length, fewer rows.  Longer length, add rows.  Fingers should fit to the crook of the hand meeting thumb.  (See Fig 2.)

   19.  Sc, sc in the thumb where you fastened off, sc 11 around the thumb, sc in the st next to the 1st sc, sc 23. (36) (See Fig. 3, 4, and 5)

Note:  If there is a noticeable hole where you attached the thumb, use the tail from the thumb piece to sew it together.  Weave in ends. (See Fig. 6 and 6.1)
